TRANSNET goes to the BT Tower

Earlier this month, some of our very own team members attended WAVE, a 1-day symposium produced by the SubOptic Foundation.

The symposium took place at one of the most renowned landmark locations in London: the BT Tower. Hosted by British Telecoms (BT), the agenda was packed with interactive discussions and presentations, delivered by some of the most distinguished CEOs, young champions and industry experts and veterans from the subsea communications industry.

While the event took place in-person at the BT Tower, the SubOptic Foundation also arranged the live-streaming of the entire event, in line with their ethos to encourage and actively address awareness, inclusivity and diversity in Subsea by reaching bright young minds around different corners of the world.

Professor Polina Bayvel, director of the TRANSNET Programme and Head of the Optical Networks Group at UCL, was one of the prominent figures at the event. In addition to being one of the key speakers at the Round Table discussion on the range of opportunities available in Subsea, she also presented her thoughts on defining moments in the breakthrough of optical networks; followed by an engaging debate on the topic with Gary Waterworth, Network Investment EMEA at META and Maja Summers, Senior Submarine Commercial Manager at Vodafone.

Organisation of the event was led by Ed McCormack, Trustee at SubOptic Foundation; John Tibbles, Advisor at SubOptic Foundation; and Isabelle Paradis, President of HOT TELECOM.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Ed McCormack says, "It was wonderful to have TRANSNET as a Research partner for our first UK event. I hope we can join hands again next year – with even more active participation. I was also delighted that the event had far impact beyond the UK. It was streamed live to institutions in several underserved regions of the world - from Africa to Middle East and India. Again, this is an opportunity to expand the coverage of our next event."

TRANSNET is proud to have been recognised as one of the partners of WAVE, a historic event showcasing the best of the best within the subsea industry.
