Dr Zhixin Liu honoured with Young Scientist Award at leading photonics conference
TRANSNET Co-I, Dr Zhixin Liu has been awarded the Young Scientist Award in recognition of his extraordinary work in the field of optical communications.
The Young Scientist Award celebrates the research excellence and community leadership of young Principal Investigators under the age of 40. The award ceremony, part of the annual Photonics Global Conference, took place in Stockholm, Sweden on 22 August 2023.
Dr Zhixin Liu, carefully reviewed out of a pool of more than 50 other candidates, was honoured in acknowledgement of his pioneering contribution of coherent optical signal processing and the promotion of communication technologies in sensing and imaging applications.
Dr Liu, Associate Professor of Optical Signal Processing, said:
“I've always dreamed of applying advanced optical communication technologies to diverse fields such as healthcare and precision instrumentation. I'm thrilled that the PGC committee has acknowledged this vision, and I'm honoured to receive the Young Scientist Award.”
Dr Liu’s achievements have been characterised by noteworthy milestones, the most significant one being the innovation of frequency comb assisted data conversion and low-latency data communications.
As Principal Investigator (PI), Dr Liu has authored more than 140 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including several high-profile papers in Nature Electronics, Nature Communications, and invited papers in leading IEEE/OSA journals. As PI, he has led over ten grants from industry and research councils, and holds ownership of four patents, including two that have been licenced for industrial applications.
About the Conference
The Photonics Global Conference (PGC) is a leading photonics conference in the field of photonics and optical communications. Established in 2005, PGC attracts more than 200 researchers worldwide exchanging the latest research progress in the photonics, with an aim to identify synergies in research directions that will lead to broader and deeper applications of photonics.
