OFC 2022: preview of TRANSNET contributions
The largest global conference and exhibition for optical communications and networking professionals returns to San Diego 06 – 10 March 2022. Take a look at how we're contributing to the technical programme below.
Domain Adaptation: the Key Enabler of NeuralNetwork Equalizers in Coherent Optical Systems
Authors: Pedro J. Freire, Bernhard Spinnler, Daniel Abode, Jaroslaw E. Prilepsky, Abdallah A. I. Ali, Nelson Costa, Wolfgang Schairer, Antonio Napoli, Andrew D. Ellis and Sergei K. Turitsyn
Abstract: We introduce the domain adaptation and randomization approach for calibrating neural network-based equalizers for real transmissions, using synthetic data. The approach renders up to 99% training process reduction, which we demonstrate in three experimental setups.
Multipoint-to-point data aggregation using a single receiver and frequency-multiplexed intensity-modulated ONUs
Authors: Zichuan Zhou, Jinlong Wei, Kari A. Clark, Eric Sillekens, Callum Deakin, Ronit Sohanpal, Yuan Luo, Radan Slavik and Zhixin Liu
Abstract: We demonstrate 2.5-GHz-spaced frequency multiplexing capable of aggregating 64 intensity-modulated end-users using low-speed electronic and optoelectronic components. All-optical network units (ONUs) achieved high per-user capacity with dedicated optical bands, enabling future low latency applications.
50 Gbaud QPSK E-band Transmission Using Bismuth Doped Fiber Amplifiers
Authors: Aleksandr Donodin, Mingming Tan, Ian Phillips, Abdallah A. I. Ali, Pratim Hazarika, Mohammed Patel, Paul Harper, Vladislav Dvoyrin, Wladek Forysiak and Sergei Turitsyn
Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate 35nm E-band transmission through 60km SSMF using 50Gbaud QPSK signals with Q2 factor penalties less than 2.75dB enabled by a bismuth-doped fiber amplifier with 29.8dB gain and 6.25dB noise figure.
Traffic Tolerance of Nanosecond Scheduling on Optical Circuit Switched Data Center Network
Authors: Joshua L. Benjamin, Alessandro Ottino, Christopher W. F. Parsonson and Georgios Zervas
Abstract: PULSE’s ns-speed NP-hard network scheduler delivers skew-tolerant performance at 90% input loads. It achieves >90% throughput, 1.5-1.9μs mean and 16-24μs tail latency (99%) for up to 6:1 hot:cold skewed traffic in OCS DCN.
Message Passing: Towards Low-Complexity, Global Optimal Routing and Wavelength Assignment Solutions for Optical Networks
Authors: Ruijie Luo, Yi-Zhi Xu, Robin Matzner, Georgios Zervas, David Saad and Polina Bayvel
Abstract: We introduce a polynomial-time distributed message passing algorithm for routing and wavelength assignment. Exact global solutions are obtained for small-scale networks and improvements are demonstrated on network scales beyond the reach of established global algorithms.
Mutual Shaping and Pre-emphasis Gain Magnification in the Throughput Maximisation for Ultrawideband Transmission
Authors: Anastasiia Vasylchenkova, Eric Sillekens, Robert I. Killey and Polina Bayvel
Abstract: We demonstrate that in ultrawideband transmission over 20THz, the added value of joint probabilistic shaping and power pre-emphasis is a factor of two higher than their individual contributions and gives a 20% increase in total mutual information.
Notifications regarding the outcome of paper submissions are due in early December.
