RAEng Case Study: Dr Lidia Galdino
TRANSNET investigator Lidia Galdino featured in the Royal Academy of Engineering’s collection of research case studies.
Dr Lidia Galdino was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship in 2018 to focus on developing the next generation of high-capacity, ultra-broadband optical fibre communications systems. In 2020, she led the widely-publicised research that demonstrated a record-breaking data transmission rate of 178 terabits per second – an internet speed that’s three million times faster than the average UK broadband connection.

As well as holding a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship, Lidia is also a co-investigator on the TRANSNET Programme (since 2018) and lecturer in high-capacity transmission systems. She is based at UCL as a member of the Optical Networks Group.
