Talks from TRANSNET members at IEEE-SUM 2021
TRANSNET members Lidia Galdino and Zhixin Liu have been invited to speak at this year’s IEEE Summer Topicals Meeting Series, being held virtually from 19-21 July 2021.
The IEEE Summer Topicals Meeting Series serves as an international forum to facilitate information exchange between various technical communities using or affected by rapidly growing areas of technology or hot topics related to the general field of photonics.
The conference provides an opportunity to learn about emerging fields and to interact with research and technology leaders. The meeting hosts 4-7 individual topics and attracts 200+ participants with 30-50 participants attending each topic. TRANSNET members Lidia Galdino and Zhixin Liu, from UCL, are speaking as part of the ‘Ultra-wideband Optical Fiber Communication and the ‘Structured Light and Beyond’ topics, respectively. Full details below.
Monday 19 July
Presenter: Lidia Galdino
Title: Challenges and Solutions to Ultrawideband Amplified Transmission Systems
Abstract: Challenges in experimentally demonstrating ultra-broadband optical transmission systems are described, together with the details of some approaches to overcome them, a description of theoretical models and metrics, and an outlook for the future.
Topic: Ultra-wideband Optical Fiber Communication Systems
Live Session: Transmission Systems I (ME2)
Time: 11:30 – 12:00 EDT (16:30 – 17:00 BST)
Wladek Forysiak, from our Aston site, is part of the IEEE-SUM 2021 organising committee and is the Topic Chair for 'Ultra-wideband Optical Fiber Communication Systems'
Wednesday 21 July
Presenter: Zhixin Liu
Title: Novel Fibers for Optically Switched Data Center Networks
Abstract: The emerging optical switching in data center networks has imposed new requirements on system and fibre designs. This talk will discuss the systems needs and how novel optical fibers, focusing on hollow core fibre, can benefit data center networks for reduced latency and power consumption.
Topic: Structured Light and Beyond
Live Session: Panel V (WD1)
Time: 09:00 (14:00 BST)
Registration for the Summer Topicals Meeting is open now and IEEE Student Members can attend for free!
